What is it?

The allowance for death is a financial benefit paid to the surviving spouse of a deceased person enrolled in one of the INPS pension schemes.

Who is it aimed at?

The benefit belongs to the surviving spouse of the insured (whose pension is calculated with a pay or mixed system) in the event that, on the date of the deceased’s death, there is no right to an indirect pension.

In the absence of the spouse, the children are entitled to the allowance if they are:

  • under the age of 18 or incapable of work;
  • dependant on the parent at the time of death.

For student children who do not work or receive a small income from work and are dependent on the parent at the time of death, the 18-year limit is increased:

  • to the age of 21, in the event of middle or vocational school attendance;
  • to the age of 26, in the event of university attendance.

How does it work?

WHAT AM I ENTITLED TO?

The amount of the allowance is related to the amount of the contributions paid.

The death benefit is equal to 45 times the amount of IVS contributions paid for the insured (in the minimum of € 22.31 and maximum of € 66.93).
